Biography

    Lucius A. Hemmer was born in 1965 and grew up in Hannover, Germany, and enjoyed already in his earliest days a substantial musical education. Starting his professional studies on the bassoon, studying at Hannover Music College with Prof. Klaus Thunemann, he added studies in conducting with Prof. Luis Biava in Philadelphia, USA und in Munich with Sergiu Celibidache. He attended Master Classes with the most successful conducting teacher Ilya Musin und received important impulses through working closely with Valerie Gergiev.

    In his professional career he was artistic director of the Camerata Academica Munich. Later on he took over the Chamber Symphony Munich and the Philharmonia of the XXIst Century. In addition he conducted ensembles like Virtuosi di Praga, SHMF Chamber Philharmonic, Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra, Temple Symphony, Philharmonia of the Nations, Czech Chamber Philharmonic and the Philharmonia Hungarica. International guest appearances led him to Japan, Russia, the US and almost all European countries. He was repeatedly invited to conduct a vast number of Chinese orchestras, such as Wuhan Philharmonic, the Tianjin Symphony and Hunan Symphony in Changsha as well as the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra in Xi'an and the Chengdu Symphony. Besides the Seoul Insiem Philharmonic Orchestra (Korea) he appeared in the Czech Republic with the Philharmonic Hradec Kralove together with Pueri Auri Boy's Choie and the Karlsbad Symphony. Most recent invitations brought him e.g. to to St. John's in Canada. He received additional invitations from Cairo Symphony Orchestra (Egypt) as well as from orchestras in Brazil.

    As an artist Mr. Hemmer enjoyed working with world stars such as Leonard Bernstein, Sir George Solti und Valery Gergiev, appeared with soloists such as Justus Frantz and performed with Christoph Eschenbach in frame of the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival. In addition he was working as adjunct teacher at Munich Music College.

    He premiered many works i.e. compositions by Helmut W. Erdmann and the Max Reger-pupil Wilhelm Rettich. He recorded repeatedly for Radio and CD and took part in productions of German National TV (ZDF and 3SAT).

    Mr. Hemmer is prize winner of various competitions, stipend recipient from Institute of Gifted Students at Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Besides his activities as conductor he works successfully as music manager. Since 2003 he has hold the position of the Artistic and Managing Director of Nuremberg Symphony.

    He has been holding a guest lecturer position at Music College Nuremberg  for a decade. The instiution named him Honorary Professor in 2019. Besides that he appears as speaker and moderator in Symphonic concerts regularely and holds academic and public courses on the intersection of conducting and management.
